This first mock draft is for the teams that are not in the playoffs. After wilcard weekend, Ill make one with the losers included. For now:
1. St. Louis Rams: Jimmy Claussen, QB
You need a QB to win in this league, and clearly the Rams don't have one. Here is the best one available in the draft, and in my opinion is a no brainer.2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DT
Best overall player in the draft, and can be a force in the NFL for years to come. They could use an OL, but he's just too good of a player to pass up on.
3. Tampa Bay Bucs: Gerald McCoy DT
They have their QB of the future, and here is their defensive star for the future. Settling with Gerald McCoy is a pretty good deal.
4. Washington Redskins: Sam Bradford, QB
Mike Shanahan is here, I think that Jason Campbell will be gone. I think Campbell could remain the starter, but I think Mike will want to start fresh with Bradford.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry, S
Their defense looked awful this season, and here is an excellent player. He can be a top playmaker for many years in the NFL.
6. Seattle Seahawks: Russel Okung, OT
The era of Walter Jones is over in Seattle. Its time to get a new franchise LT in there. Im not sure if Okung will necescarily be a franchise LT, but he is the best in the draft.
7. Cleveland Browns: Ronaldo McClain, ILB
The best linebacker in the draft, could make an immediate impact.
8. Oakland Raiders: Eversen Griffen, DE
Al Davis is a pretty unpredictable drafter, but if he takes Griffen here I dont see it being that bad of a pick.
9. Buffalo Bills: Bruce Campbell, OT
They need a QB, but there really arent any worth taking here. They need to help that awful OL.
10. Jacksonville Jaguars, Tim Tebow, ?
This would be pretty much all about marketing, which might not be a bad thing. It would fill seats, but Tebow will not win them games as a QB.
11. Denver Broncos: Joe Haden, CB
Bailey-Haden and eventually Haden-Smith could be a great CB duo.
12. Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams, DT
Dez Bryant could be an option here, but generally Parcells doesnt draft WR's in the first round. They really a NT and heres the best one.
13. San Francisco 49ers: Anthony Davis, OT
If Haden is gone, they should go offensive tackle-Davis being the best one available at this point.
14. Seattle Seahawks: C.J. Spiller, RB
The Seahawks have been looking for a great RB since Shaun Alexander, and here is their chance to get one.
15. New York Giants, Brian Price, DT
They could and should go linebackers here, but we all know they like taking DL. They'd be getting a great DT here.
16. San Francisco 49ers: Donovan Warren, CB
If they miss out on Haden, they can still get Warren who is a very solid CB.
17. Tennessee Titans: Dez Bryant, WR
Despite the fact they took Britt last year #1, I think they will be inclined to get another target for Vince Young if Dez Bryant is here.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Earl Thomas, S
Thomas and Polamalu can make for a scary secondary.
19. Atlanta Falcons: Trevard Lindley, CB
They obviously need help in the pass game, CB is their best option in the first round..probably the next two rounds as well.
20. Houston Texans: Taylor Mays, S
Mays stock has fallen a lot since last year, but I think the Texans would be happy to take him here. He can be the playmaking safety they have been looking for.
